How did your LIM education help prepare you for what you鈥檙e doing now?
LIM introduced me to classes and internships I would not have otherwise been exposed to. This gave me skills I still use today, from learning proper fashion terms to the math that I need to use. I still reach out to my professors if I have any questions that I need insight on, and they are always happy to help!
What was your career path before starting your own company?
While attending LIM, I was also a full-time manager at Macy鈥檚. It was pretty challenging, but to get to where I am today was all worth it. After I graduated from LIM, I was an Account Associate at Jordache Enterprises in NYC. I had been there about five months when I decided to start Brown Dyed Girl.
What鈥檚 the biggest challenge in starting your own business?
My biggest challenge was having to do it all on my own since the very beginning. I wear a ton of different hats, and it has been very stressful at times. Finding the right factory and employees was difficult, but now I have amazing employees and a great production team to help continue growing Brown Dyed Girl. Even though I faced some challenges, it made me a stronger businesswoman and I鈥檝e learned from my mistakes, which will help me continue to grow.
What has been your biggest career accomplishment?
It鈥檚 definitely how much I鈥檝e grown my company in just eight months. In less than a year, I outgrew my parents basement and now have an office in Yorktown Heights, New York, which I work from every day alongside my employees. It鈥檚 been so exciting to see different celebrities and influencers鈥攍ike Jamie Lynn Spears, Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat, Hannah Brown and Hannah G of "Bachelor Nation," model Camille Kostek, and olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin鈥攚earing my clothes on their social media platforms.
What advice would you give someone who鈥檚 considering starting their own business?
If you have a passion for something, do not let anyone tell you you can鈥檛 do it. I had many people who didn鈥檛 believe in me telling me not to quit my job, and here I am: a successful businesswoman who chased after my dream of having my own fashion company. So, go after your dream! Brown Dyed Girl will be rooting for you!
