Three Indian athletes won medals at the Tokyo Paralympics yesterday, National Sports Day. On the birthday of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand, table tennis player Bhavinaben Patel, high jumper Nishad Kumar and discus thrower Vinod Kumar won medals in Tokyo.

Bhavina started India's medal hunt by winning a silver medal. This is India's first medal on the Tokyo Paralympics. Later, Nishad Kumar won silver in the high jump and Vinod Kumar won bronze in the discus throw. Bhavina Patel won silver in the women's table tennis final after losing to China's Ying Zhou.

Nishad Kumar won the silver medal in the men's high jump with a new Asian record. Twenty-one-year-old Nishad Kumar set the record by jumping 2.06 meters. Dallas, USA also won silver. Dallas also cleared 2.06 meters. Another American, Roderick Townsend, won the gold. Rodriguez set a new world record by jumping 2.15 meters. India's Ram Pal (1.94m) finished fifth.

In the men's discus throw, India's Vinod Kumar set the Asian record for bronze. Vinod Kumar finished third with a distance of 19.91 meters. Poland's Piotr Kosevich (20.02m) won gold and Croatia's Velimir Sandor (19.98m) won silver.
